Mountain View Cemetery GAR Monument (Longmont, Colorado)


Union

Life-sized granite statue of Union soldier, with downcast eyes, standing at parade rest, holding the barrel of a rifle whose butt rests on the ground next to his right foot. The soldier wears a Union overcoat, cape, and kepi hat. The statue is mounted atop a granite pedestal engraved on its east and west sides. The monument is located near a flagpole in the center of the cemetery.

Inscription:

The east side of the pedestal base is inscribed, "In Memory of Our Honored Dead," above crossed sabres flanked by "61" on the left and "65" on the right. The west side of the pedestal is inscribed, "Dedicated to Our Nations [sic] Defenders by the W.R.C. May 30, 1907."
